Employers/Employees

The Labour Market Group has worked in partnership with a variety of employer and employee groups such as Chambers of Commerce and District Labour Councils to bring local workforce issues to the forefront.  Over the years, employers have found that an unskilled workforce represents huge challenges for business growth and expansion.  Because of these skill shortages, businesses have had to import labour from other parts of the world in order to fulfill their demands.  On the employee side, workers also say that they feel they can not leave or retire from their jobs, because there are not workers available to fill their positions and maintain steady production.  Workers tend to remain employed past their retirement age due to such demand for work.

Employers/EmployeesThe Labour Market Group continues to bring these two key components of the work force together to break down barriers and begin to work together toward a common goal of maintaining and making available local employment.  Several partnership initiatives have taken place locally and include promoting the awareness of available local jobs and the skills necessary to fill these jobs, also awareness of the importance of employers providing training in order to increase productivity and ultimately their bottom line.
